Meeting on COP30: New Avenues for Climate and Energy Cooperation in Colombo, Sri Lanka by South Asian Regional Parliamentary Forum (SARPF)

October 16, 2025

Around 35 parliamentarians from South Asia, Brazil, Latin America, and the Caribbean region convened in Colombo, Sri Lanka, on October 16, 2025. It was organised by the South Asia Regional Parliamentary Forum on Climate, Energy and Environment (SARPF) and supported by Climate Action Network South Asia (CANSA), Plataforma CIPÓ, the Parliamentary Observatory on Climate Change and Just Transition (OPCC), and Climate de Política. The parliamentarians meeting produced two landmark documents: the Action Agenda: South Asia Parliamentarians’ Roadmap for Regional Cooperation for Climate Action and Energy Transition, and the Joint Statement by South Asia, Brazil, Latin American and Caribbean Parliamentarians on COP30.

The meeting comprised two distinct sessions: the first focused on regional South Asian priorities, and the second marked an unprecedented South-South parliamentary collaboration ahead of COP30 in Belém, Brazil. The programme exhibited a collective voice from the parliamentarians of Global South on climate change.
