SARPF India: Linking Evidence, Finance and Parliamentary Action

August 3, 2026

SARPF convened around 25 Members of Parliament for a focused discussion on how India can strengthen climate resilience through better use of evidence, climate finance and parliamentary action. Chaired by Hon. Dr Sanjay Jaiswal, Chairperson, SARPF, the meeting brought together leading experts to examine the climate risks facing India and the policy and financing approaches needed to respond effectively.

Ms Suruchi Bhadwal, Senior Fellow and Director, Climate Change and Air Quality, TERI, spoke on the links between climate resilience, evidence, finance and parliamentary action. Dr Abhijit Datey, Lead Specialist-Research, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), shared perspectives on disaster-resilient infrastructure and the way forward. The presentations were followed by extensive questions and discussion with participating MPs.

The dialogue highlighted the importance of evidence-based policymaking, innovative climate finance and resilient infrastructure, while underscoring the role of parliamentarians in strengthening India’s preparedness for a changing climate and shaping effective policy responses. The discussion also provided an opportunity to reflect on priorities for India’s engagement in the run-up to COP31.
