The South Asia Regional Parliamentary Forum (SARPF) held an introductory meeting in Kathmandu on 1 June 2026, bringing together around 15 multi-party Members of Parliament from Nepal, along with prominent representatives from civil society. The meeting introduced SARPF’s work and provided an opportunity for an open discussion on the challenges and opportunities for regional cooperation on climate change, environmental sustainability and energy transition.
The participating parliamentarians expressed strong interest in working with SARPF and in strengthening Nepal’s engagement with the wider South Asian parliamentary network. Discussions also explored the opportunities presented by regional cooperation, including climate finance and shared approaches to climate action, as well as SARPF’s future activities in Nepal. The meeting marked an important step towards building a committed parliamentary constituency in Nepal for national, regional and international engagement on climate and sustainable development.
